Prestigious list based purely on peer reviews recognizes professional excellence
DENVER (August 17, 2023)–Nine attorneys at Denver-based Fortis Law Partners have been honored with inclusion on the 2024 U.S. News – Best Lawyers in America® list. The firm now has half its full-time attorneys featured on the highly-respected list. Recognition by Best Lawyers is based entirely on peer review gathered from lawyers who practice within the same geographical region and area of law. As the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession, a listing in Best Lawyers® signals not only legal expertise but also ethics and professionalism of the highest caliber.
Best Lawyers® recognized Fortis Law Partners co-founders Julie Herzog and Christine Lamb for the fourth year running while naming partners Julian Izbiky and Elizabeth (Liz) Hartsel for the second consecutive year. Partner Andrew Comer was honored for the first time. The Best Lawyers: Ones to WatchⓇ list included Fortis attorneys Lenora (Leni) Plimpton, Michael Annerino, Charlie Carlin and Dustin Rickett.
“Receiving this acknowledgment shines a spotlight on our attorneys’ hustle, entrepreneurial spirit, and dedication to problem-solving,” said Fortis partner Julie Herzog. “Any success we achieve is a direct reflection of our hard work on behalf of our clients.”
Best Lawyers honored Herzog’s expertise in Commercial Transactions/UCC, Corporate and Securities/Capital Markets law. Herzog leads the firm’s corporate/securities practice and specializes in mergers and acquisitions. For nearly 30 years, she has helped entrepreneurs and companies successfully raise capital and navigate the M&A process. She is also the co-founder of Full Velocity Consulting, which provides businesses with outsourced C-suite services, and received acceptance into the exclusive Entrepreneurs’ Organization Global Speakers Academy, where she has the opportunity to share personal and professional insights at conferences around the U.S. and internationally.
Best Lawyers recognized partner Chris Lamb for her expertise in Employment Law – Management, Labor and Employment Litigation and Workers’ Compensation Law for Employers. Lamb heads Fortis’ respected employment law practice group and frequently represents clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the US Department of Labor, the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment and other government entities. She is also certified as a labor & employment arbitrator by the American Arbitration Association® (AAA), the nation’s leading provider of alternative dispute resolution services.
Andrew Comer received high marks for his work in Corporate Law. Comer regularly advises companies on mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions, and other corporate matters affecting their formation, financing, and operation. He has been a driving force at Fortis since he joined the firm in 2018, due in part to his launch and leadership of the firm’s trademark & intellectual property practice area, which he quickly and substantially expanded. In Spring 2023, ColoradoBiz Magazine selected Comer for its GenXYZ Top 25 Professionals Award.
Julian Izbiky, partner at Fortis Law Partners, was endorsed by Best Lawyers for his work in Business Organizations (including LLCs and Partnerships) and Corporate Law. Izbiky is a seasoned and respected expert in business law and mergers and acquisitions, with over 40 years of experience helping clients start or buy businesses, operate, and eventually sell them. Izbiky has closed over 1,000 business purchase and sale transactions in the small and lower middle market spaces. Over the last twelve months, he closed 27 deals ranging in size from less than one million to 33 million dollars. Izbiky also holds an AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Fortis partner, Liz Hartsel, was recognized by Best Lawyers for her work in Labor and Employment Litigation and Employment Law – Management. Hartsel is highly experienced in helping businesses and employees mitigate risks and navigate labor and employment laws. When litigation is unavoidable, she is skilled at guiding clients on both sides of disputes regarding discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims, wrongful termination, and wage and hour (FLSA) claims. In addition, Hartsel regularly advises employers on labor issues, such as collective bargaining and Department of Labor appeals.
The U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Ones to Watch” designation spotlights up-and-coming attorneys who have been in private practice for less than ten years and who, based on peer reviews, are practicing at an exceptionally high level of professionalism and competence. Associate Michael Annerino and Senior Associates Charlie Carlin and Leni Plimpton earned this honor for their work in commercial litigation, with Leni receiving it for the fourth year running, and Senior Associate Dustin Rickett was recognized for his expertise in Mergers and Acquisitions Law.
